I am currently an Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro, in the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics (DETI), senior researcher of IEETA, and research collaborator at the Institute of Telecommunications (IT).

My early background is in the field of distributed systems and applications, namely on network and systems management. However, during the past five years I have been shifting my research interests into bioinformatics and biomedical informatics, with particular emphasis on integration of clinical and genetic information and on biomedical applications for health.

I am the coordinator of the Bioinformatics group at the University of Aveiro and Director of the Bioinformatics unit of BIOCANT, an applied research and development center in Life Sciences.
