CAMBADA (acronym of Cooperative Autonomous Mobile roBots with Advanced Distributed Architecture) is the RoboCup middle-size league soccer team of the University of Aveiro, Portugal. This project started officially in October 2003.
The team has participated in six RoboCup competitions, namely, RoboCup2004, RoboCup2006, DutchOpen2006, RoboCup2007, RoboCup2008 and RoboCup2009, and in the last six editions of the Portuguese Robotics Open: Robotica2004, Robotica2005, Robotica2006, Robotica2007, Robotica2008 and Robotica2009. CAMBADA middle-size robotic soccer team won the 1st place in the Portuguese Robotics Open 2009, 2008 and 2007, ranked 5th in the RoboCup World Championship 2007, won the RoboCup World Championship 2008 and ranked 3rd in the RoboCup World Championship 2009.

CAMBADA ranked 3rd in the RoboCup 2009

The CAMBADA team played a very successful tournament at the RoboCup 2009 World Championship which has been held in Graz - Austria from 29 June to 5 July 2009. After having successfully played the three round robins, the CAMBADA team lost the semi-final against the Dutch team Tech United, from the Eindhoven University of Technology, by 0-2 and won the game for the third place against the Iranian team MRL, from the Qazvin Azad University, by 3-1.
The CAMBADA team was the only team that was able to beat the current European and World Champions, the German team 1. RFC Stuttgart from the University of Stuttgart, in an emotive game that ended up with a 5-2.
The CAMBADA team won 12 of the 14 games of the tournament, with a total of 71 goals for and a goal difference of 58 (the best goal average of the competition). The team also ranked first in this year Technical Challenge.

 

CAMBADA became National Champions 2009

The CAMBADA team won its third consecutive National tournament at Robotica2009 which was held in Castelo Branco from 6 to 10 May 2009. The team won all the eight games, scoring a total of 73 goals and suffering none. The CAMBADA record of number of goals scored in a single game was also beaten with a fantastic result of 22-0. The final game was played against the 5DPO team, from the University of Oporto, that ended with a 8-0 for CAMBADA.

 

CAMBADA became World Champions 2008

The CAMBADA team played a very successful tournament at the RoboCup 2008 World Championship which was held in Suzhou - China from 14 to 20 July 2008. After having successfully played the three round robins, the CAMBADA team won the semi-final against the Germany team CoPS from the University of Stuttgart (European vice-Champions 2008), a very emotive game that ended up with a 4-3.
The final game was played against the Dutch team Tech United, from the Eindhoven University of Technology (European Champions 2008), that ended with a 7-1 for CAMBADA. In this game the team clearly improved his reliability and played one of its best matches (see a video here).
The CAMBADA team won 11 of the 13 games of the tournament, with a total of 73 goals for and only 11 goals against (the best goal average of the competition).
