Sérgio Oliveira, a Master’s student in Digital Game Development at the University of Aveiro (UA), has been awarded the 2024 Best Thesis Award in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by the Portuguese Association for the Development of Communications (APDC). His thesis, supervised by Beatriz Sousa Santos and Bernardo Marques, with collaboration from Dr. Paula Amorim and Paulo Dias, focuses on integrating serious games and virtual reality to aid stroke survivors’ rehabilitation. The project, part of IEETA’s VARLab, involved extensive testing and iterative development with stroke survivors, therapists, and medical professionals. This work has also received an honorable mention in 2023 and has led to multiple accepted conference papers. This award reinforces the IEETA’s significant contributions to rehabilitation technologies.
