Luísa Amaral has been honored with the Alcino Lavrador Prize, which recognizes outstanding academic achievements in the fields of Information, Communication, and Electronics Technologies (ICT) and STEM. This award commemorates the legacy of Alcino Lavrador, former CEO of Altice Labs, for his dedication to innovation and leadership.
Under the supervision of António Neves, Luís Amaral developed her master’s thesis on digital image annotation algorithms for lifelog retrieval and identification. With lifelogging gaining prominence as individuals document daily experiences through digital devices, Amaral proposed a system to improve how lifelog images are annotated and retrieved. Her work integrated cutting-edge computer vision techniques to enhance annotation processes and addressed issues such as redundancy and the classification of annotation importance.
This innovative research offers a significant step forward in using computer vision to extract meaningful insights from lifelog images, enabling users to better understand and recall their recorded memories. Amaral’s recognition underscores the value of her contribution to this growing field and reinforces the importance of technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges.
