A research team from the Virtual and Augmented Reality Lab (VAR Lab) at IEETA, in collaboration with the Center for Rehabilitation Medicine of the Central Region—Rovisco Pais—was awarded Best Long Paper at the International Workshop on eXtended Reality for Industrial and Occupational Supports, held in France last March.
The award-winning paper, “Collaborative Virtual Reality Serious Games as a Therapeutic Medium for Stroke Survivors at a Rehabilitation Center,” presents a virtual reality tool that uses serious games to support stroke rehabilitation. The tool promotes cognitive and physical training for upper limbs through five collaborative games, helping to increase motivation and engagement during therapy.
Unlike traditional systems, this solution allows multiple users to interact together and includes monitoring tools for health professionals, enabling real-time support and personalization of the rehabilitation experience. Early results show promising benefits, and other rehabilitation centers have already expressed interest in adopting the technology.
