We are delighted to share the achievement of Teresa Pereira, a PhD student affiliated with IEETA and enrolled in the Computer Engineering PhD program at the University of Aveiro. Teresa has been honored with a Merit Travel Scholarship bestowed upon her by the organizing committee of EPIA 2023.
Teresa’s award-winning research project, “Electrocardiogram for Biometric Recognition: Collectability, Stability, and Application Challenges,” took center stage at the Student Symposium on Artificial Intelligence during EPIA 2023, held in Faial, Azores. Her work centers on ECG-based biometric recognition, leveraging a meticulously designed flexible cardiac sensing device developed as part of her Ph.D. project. This project was developed under the collaboration between IEETA (UA), CICECO (UA), and IBEB (FCUL).
Within her research, Teresa investigates ECG biometrics under varying acquisition conditions, probing the impact of diverse psychophysiological factors while assessing the feasibility of conducting multiple recognitions over time. Her study encompasses an exhaustive comparative analysis of features and classification models, aimed at optimizing performance and reliability.
The overarching objective of Teresa’s research is to establish a robust framework for identification and authentication systems, thus advancing the realm of secure and efficient biometric technology. Her work exemplifies the IEETA’s commitment to fostering innovation and excellence. Congratulations, Teresa, on this well-deserved recognition of your dedication and accomplishments!
