Daniela Pais, a Ph.D. student of the Doctoral Program in Computer Science (MAPi), and a member of IEETA (UA) at the University of Aveiro won an award for the most innovative idea for her work entitled “Learning Postoperative Pain through Physiological Signals” presented at the first edition of sPITCHless MED+ organized by the EMBS chapter of University of Aveiro.
Her work aims to develop novel data science strategies based on physiological signals for assessing postoperative pain more effectively. A physiological-based approach introduces an automated and objective pain recognition methodology, enabling continuous and non-invasive monitoring throughout the postoperative recovery phase. The main goal of this approach is to assist healthcare professionals in managing pain to improve patient care by reducing the incidence of intense pain and analgesia-related side effects.
