Beatriz Sousa Santos, a professor in the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics(DETI) of Universidade de Aveiro (UAveiro), has been elected a fellow of the Eurographics association in recognition of her significant contributions to this association and to the field of Computer Graphics (and related areas), as well as her central role in the community.
Eurographics is a scientific and professional association at European level that promotes the advancement of the state of the art in Computer Graphics and related fields such as visualization, virtual and augmented reality and human-computer interaction.
This association has a broad membership of professionals from academia and industry; it organizes the largest annual computer graphics conference in Europe (Eurographics), as well as workshops on specific topics; it publishes one of the best scientific journals in the field, books and other publications; it maintains working groups on specific topics and promotes courses.
Eurographics works closely with other organizations related to this scientific area, such as ACM SIGGRAPH, the world’s largest organization in the field of Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, and maintains links with societies in the USA, Japan and other countries.
For Beatriz Sousa Santos, this is a distinction that “honors her greatly and motivates her to continue collaborating with this association”.
Over the years, the UAveiro teacher has led the organization of important Eurographics events, and was president of the Eurographics Education Council. But her contributions go beyond organizing events, influencing educational practices and research directions within the Computer Graphics community. Her work has been instrumental in linking academic research with practical applications in various areas, thus contributing to the transfer of knowledge with industry and society, making significant advances in the understanding and use of Computer Graphics.
Beatriz Sousa Santos is an associate professor at UAveiro’s DETI; she has a Doctorate in Electrical Engineering and a degree in Human-Computer Interfaces. Her main research interests are currently virtual and augmented reality and data and information visualization.
She has proposed and taught numerous curricular units mainly in Computer Graphics and related areas, but also in other areas. She has held positions at UAveiro and DETI, and is currently a member of the General Council and director of the Doctoral Program in Computer Engineering.
She is an expert for the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education, an associate editor for Elsevier journals and the IEEE, has organized national and international conferences, was a member of the Executive Board and Chair of the Education Board of Eurographics.
