As an Engineering Research Institute, IEETA has a clear focus on applied research, and a vast majority of the R&D activities rely on laboratory and experimental support.
Main Building
IEETA’s operations are centered around the main building, encompassing 1800 m². This facility serves as the primary space for the BIT (Biomedical Informatics and Technologies) and ISP (Intelligent Systems and Processes) groups, housing laboratories, offices, and collaborative workspaces.
Robotics Laboratory
A separate 700 m² open-space laboratory is exclusively dedicated to robotic research conducted by the IRIS (Intelligent Robotics and Intelligent Systems) group. This space allows for large-scale experiments and testing of autonomous systems.
Computational Infrastructure
The research activities at IEETA are supported by the Taurus computational infrastructure, including two clusters:
- Pleiades HPC cluster: dedicated to scientific computing and AI tasks.
- Hyades VM cluster: focused on application and software development.
In 2024, Taurus features over 15 computing nodes with more than 350 CPU cores and 3 TB of RAM, being equipped with top Nvidia Ampere and Ada Lovelace GPUs essential for deep learning tasks like training and inference on large-scale models.
