IEETA organises APPIA Advanced School on Artificial Intelligence
On the 23-24 July, the Advanced School on Artificial Intelligence (EAIA) took place at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics (DETI) of Aveiro University. This School was a two-day event promoted by the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence and organized by the Institute of Electronics and Informatics Engineering of Aveiro (IEETA) researchers’ Sónia Gouveia and Nuno Lau.
During the two days several topics from machine learning theory to real-world AI applications were discussed. This year, the emphasis was on the foundations of data & signal processing, reinforcement learning & autonomous systems, natural language processing & human-AI collaboration, and AI for healthcare & bio-medical informatics. These current challenges were discussed by panel of leading experts, including IEETA-DETI researchers Armando J. Pinho and Beatriz Sousa Santos.
The EAIA attracted students from all school cycles, from bachelor to PhD, as well as young researchers and professors. This shows that the rapid advancement in AI encourages people at all career stages to continuously update their knowledge. To make the event accessible to all, APPIA and IEETA co-financed 15 scholarships granted to talented participants.
