Short CV

Born in 1956, in Albergaria-a-Velha, Portugal. Received the Electronics and Telecommunications Engineer degree (5 year) in 1979, and the Ph.D in 1989, all from the University of Aveiro, Portugal.

From 1979 to the present he has been with the University of Aveiro in the Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics Department (DETI) being Lecturer (1979-1989), Assistant Professor (1989-1994), Associate Professor (1994-2004) and since 2004, Full Professor. From 1998 to 2002 was the Director of University of Aveiro Communications and Informatics Center. Since 1998 he is also senior researcher of the IEETA (Institute of Electronic Engineering and Telematics of Aveiro) Laboratory of Information Systems and Telematics and coordinator of the Digital Library group. From 1992 to 1997 he was vice-director of INESC Aveiro and coordinator of the Telematics group. He participated in several National and European RD projects in the aim of Telemedicine, Open and Distance Learning and Information Technology programs.
Since 2011 is the Director of the Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics Department.

His current interest areas are: web oriented information systems, digital libraries, service oriented architectures, web services, semantic web, e-Government, web engineering and computer networks.

He is member of IEEE and Portuguese OE (Ordem dos Engenheiros)

Academic activities

• Since 2011 is the Director of the Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics Department.
• Since 2004, Full Professor - Dep. Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, University of Aveiro.
• Since 1998, Senior Researcher - Lab. of Information Systems and Telematics, IEETA (Institute of Electronic Engineering and Telematics of Aveiro).
• 2007-2010, Member of the Scientific Commission of the MAP-I Computer Science join Doctoral program of Minho, Aveiro and Porto Universities.
• 2006-2011, Scientific Coordinator of the Information Systems profile - Electronic and Telecommunications Master, Cabo Verde edition, from University of Aveiro in collaboration with the Cape Vert University.
