The weakest point of the project rely on the fact of requiring a wire to connect the chip to a computer. If this is ok for some applications, for systems implanted inside the human body, it would be necessary to built-in a low power wireless transceiver. This will be one of the issues to deal in future versions of the chip! The planned final application of the chip, is to use it in a real time alarm system for detection of cardiac dysfunctions before they reach a too much severe status. The software is being developed for a PALM tm PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). So far tests are being made for arrhythmia, but the idea is to explore the increase in computational power of these computers to detect other cardiac diseases.
