Short Biography

António J. R. Neves was born in Torres Novas, Portugal, in July 1979. He received the Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering degree from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, in 2002 and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Aveiro, in 2007.

Currently, he is an Invited Assistant Professor (Professor Auxiliar Convidado) at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro, and a researcher at the Signal Processing Laboratory of the Institute of Electronics and Telematics Engineering of Aveiro - IEETA. He is also a member of the IEEE, European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP), Portuguese Robotic Society (SPR) and member of the Technical Committee on Image Processing of the International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED).

His main research interests are image and video coding (lossless coding, pre-processing techniques, images with special characteristics), bioinformatics (Microarray images and DNA coding) and robotics (computer vision and multi-agent robotics). Currently he is the team leader of the CAMBADA robotic soccer team.

He co-organized, or is currently co-organizing the following events:

• RECPAD 2009 - 15th Portuguese Conference on Pattern Recognition, Aveiro, Portugal.
• Computer Vision in Robotics - Thematic session on Computer Vision in Robotics to be held at VipIMAGE 2009, Porto, Portugal.
• IROBOT 2009 - 3rd International Workshop on Intelligent Robotics to be held at EPIA 2009, Aveiro, Portugal.
• Robotica 2008 - Portuguese Robotics Open, Aveiro, Portugal.

He is a reviewer for several journals, including the Mechatronics, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, International Journal of Computers and Applications, Journal of Real-Time Image Processing, Signal, Image and Video Processing, Journal of Electronic Imaging, IEE Proceedings Vision, Image & Signal Processing, Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis and International Journal of Imaging. He is also reviewer of several conferences, including IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (IEEE ICIP), International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition (ICIAR), Iberoamerican Congress on Pattern Recognition (CIARP), among others.
